Fort Worth Opera - Turandot

fwopera_logo_100.gif - 4653 Bytes

When we hear about opera composers, we generally think they lived in a world of horse-drawn carriages, populated mostly by powder-wigged dukes and duchesses. This was definitely not the scenario when Puccini (1858-1924) wrote Turandot. One of the surprising things about Turandot is that it is a modern work-or at least, more modern than most of the operas that near its popularity. Just consider the world in 1924 when Puccini put his every last breath into Turandot: Ford Motor Company had already produced 10 million cars, Babe Ruth hit 46 home runs and drove in 121 runs, More than 2.5 million American homes had radios, This was the world into which Turandot was born.   more_blue.gif - 112 Bytes
