4th Annual Modern Dance Festival at The Modern

Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth celebrate modern and contemporary dance

Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth's 4th annual Modern Dance Festival at The Modern for Summer 2007 includes an exciting line-up of performances, lectures, and films. "We're especially excited to continue our partnership with the Dance Films Association of New York and their Dance On Camera Festival, as a domestic touring partner for their films," noted CD/FW Executive/Artistic Director Kerry Kreiman. "In addition to the Dance On Camera films, we'll be showing a rarely seen documentary about Josephine Baker with special permission from the producer in London."

Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth kicks off its 4th Annual Modern Dance Festival at The Modern with the 17th edition of the CD/FW Dance Exchange: A Choreographers Showcase. The Dallas Morning News named this showcase one of the Top 10 Dance Events of 2005: "Vast space and rippling water gardens at the Modern proved an ideal setting..." Choreographers featured will include Caryn Heilman (NYC), Deborah Birrane (Seattle), Alyson Cartagena (LA), John Wilson (Arizona), Susan Douglas Roberts (Fort Worth), Amy Jo (Dallas), Julie Jones (Grapevine), Lacreacia Sanders (Fort Worth), Tina Mullone-Carter (Dallas), and Mary Lynn Babcock (Denton).

Dance Explorers – Morning camp for 6-8 year olds
June 5-9 -- Tuesday-Saturday, 8 am to 11:30 am
June 18-22 – Monday-Friday, 8 am to 11:30 am
Tuition $120 for 1 week or $200 for 2 weeks
Classes include modern dance, creative movement, improvisation, integrated visual art and creative writing activities, explorations in rhythm, music, and sound scores, watching dances on video, and making dances (choreography). The last 30 minutes on the last day will be informal "show and tell" time with friends and family.

The Dance Adventure
Mondays for 3 weeks -- June 11, June 18, June 25
Tuition $50
Instructor: Amy Jo Myers
A mini "Dance Discovery" camp for young children to experience a taste of dance and creative movement. Integrated activities include storytelling, reading, and visual art. The last 30 minutes on the last day will be informal "show and tell" time with friends and family.
Ages 3-4 -- 10-11:30
Ages 4-5 -- 1-2:30
Ages 5-6 -- 4-5:30
Ages 6-8 -- 6-7:30

Dance Daredevils Camp -- Ages 9-12
June 12-16 -- Tuesday-Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm
Tuition: $250
Instructors: Laura Barbee, Sheyna Ferraro, Breanna Kimbley
Classes include modern dance, creative movement, improvisation, integrated visual art and creative writing activities, explorations in rhythm, music, and sound scores, watching dances on video, and making dances (choreography). The last 30 minutes on the last day will be informal “show and tell” time with friends and family.

INTENSE DANCE CAMP
June 25 - 29 -- Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm
Ages 12 and up
Tuition $275
Instructors: Laura Barbee, Breanna Kimbley, Kerry Kreiman, Tina Mullone-Carter For students with previous dance experience and an avid interest in dance, whether as a career or a hobby.
Students will learn basic skills of choreography and visual design in addition to experiencing a variety of styles and techniques, including classes in modern dance, ballet, jazz, strengthening/stretching, African, improvisation, and choreography. Tina Mullone-Carter will teach choreography as it relates to ideas from art history. An informal showing for friends and family will be presented from 4-5 pm on the last day.

FOOD: Bring your own lunch and snacks.

DRESS: Students must wear appropriate clothing which facilitates ease of motion. Clothing should be able to stretch, and fit closely to the body so that teachers can see if students are working with appropriate alignment to avoid injury. INTENSE dance camp students should bring ballet and jazz shoes if you already own them. Socks work, too.
